While visiting
Reading, don't miss the chance to visit the
Daniel Boone Homestead, just a few minutes drive
from the Inn at Reading. An educational
adventure into historic Pennsylvania life, this
is a perfect activity to plan for a half-day
during your vacation.

At the
Daniel Boone homestead visitors are
invited to tour the 579 acre preserve
that features the legendary American
frontiersman's birthplace and childhood
home.
Born in 1734 to Quaker
parents, Boone spent the first 16 years
of his life at the Reading homestead. He
would later go on to become a famous
hunter and pioneer who explored and
settled the frontier now known as the
U.S. state of Kentucky. Boone became one
of America's first folk heroes and his
exploits have been the tale and legend
of many books, films and TV shows.

At the Daniel Boone Homestead, visitors may
request a guided tour of the house, which has
been altered during generations of ownership,
but still gives valuable insight into the daily
life of early settlers. Visitors may also take a
barn tour, to learn about early barn structures
and 18th century farming. Special events and
tours are scheduled throughout the year.
The Daniel Boone Homestead is a state historic
site. Hosts ask that visitors allow at least two
hours to tour the property, and call ahead to
schedule a house tour. Note that none of the
structures are heated or cooled, so hosts
recommend dressing appropriately.
